About the Ozone Unit#
The Ozone Unit is the National Ozone Unit (NOU) of Seychelles, established under the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources (MECENR). We coordinate Seychelles' compliance with the Montreal Protocol and its Kigali Amendment.
Our mandate#
- Phase out ozone-depleting substances (ODS) including CFCs, HCFCs, and methyl bromide.
- Phase down hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) under the Kigali Amendment.
- Strengthen the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) sector with good service practices, refrigerant recovery, and certified training.
- Engage industry, schools, and the public on ozone layer protection.
Multilateral Fund support#
Seychelles is an Article 5 country under the Montreal Protocol and benefits from technical assistance and project funding through the Multilateral Fund (MLF) for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol.
